According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall affects Peloton's popular Bike and Bike+ models, which have been sold in the United States and Canada since 2013. The CPSC has received more than 120 reports of pedal breakages, including 16 reports of injuries such as broken bones and lacerations.
In a statement, Peloton CEO John Foley apologized to customers for the inconvenience and expressed the company's commitment to addressing the issue promptly and effectively.
"We are aware of the recent incidents involving our bikes and take the safety of our customers extremely seriously," Foley said. "We are working closely with the CPSC to ensure that all affected customers receive the necessary repairs and updates as quickly as possible."
As part of the recall, Peloton is offering customers a free repair kit that includes replacement pedals and instructions for installation. The company is also working to develop a new, improved pedal design that will address the safety concerns and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
While the recall may be a setback for Peloton, the company remains a leader in the fitness industry and has continued to expand its offerings in recent years. With a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction, Peloton is sure to overcome this challenge and continue to provide top-quality equipment and services to fitness enthusiasts around the world.
