Joran Van Der Sloot to be Extradited to the US for Natalee Holloway Case

The Peruvian government has approved the extradition of Joran Van Der Sloot to the United States to face charges related to the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in 2005. The decision was announced by Peru's Ministry of Justice on Tuesday.

Van Der Sloot, a Dutch national, was convicted in 2012 of killing a 21-year-old woman in Peru and is currently serving a 28-year sentence in a Peruvian prison. He has also been the prime suspect in the case of Natalee Holloway, who disappeared while on vacation in Aruba in 2005. Despite extensive searches and investigations, her body has never been found.

The US has long sought Van Der Sloot's extradition in connection with the Holloway case. The latest request was made in 2018 and argued that he had extorted money from Holloway's family in exchange for information about her whereabouts.

Van Der Sloot's defense team has already announced its intention to appeal the extradition decision. They argue that the request is based on "political considerations" and that he would not receive a fair trial in the US.

It remains to be seen when Van Der Sloot will be transferred to the US, as the extradition process could take several months. Once in the US, he will face charges of extortion and wire fraud related to the Holloway case.

The case has been a high-profile one for over a decade, with many speculating about Van Der Sloot's involvement in Holloway's disappearance. The decision to extradite him to the US is likely to bring renewed attention to the case and offer hope to Holloway's family that they may finally get some answers.
