NBCUniversal announced on Wednesday that Linda Yaccarino, the company's chairman of global advertising and partnerships, will step down from her current role to take on a new position as Twitter's CEO.
Yaccarino's move to the social media giant comes at a critical time for the company, as it seeks to grow its user base and revenue streams amid increased competition from rival platforms. She will be tasked with driving Twitter's growth and innovation strategy, as well as overseeing its daily operations.
In a statement, Yaccarino said that she was "honored and thrilled" to take on the role of CEO at Twitter. "I have long admired the company's ability to connect people around the world and serve as a vital source of news and information," she said. "I look forward to working with the talented team at Twitter to build on its legacy of innovation and bring new opportunities to its users and partners."
Yaccarino has been with NBCUniversal for over a decade, leading the company's advertising efforts across its portfolio of networks and properties. During her tenure, she helped to establish the company's ad sales division as one of the most successful in the industry, generating billions of dollars in annual revenue.
NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell praised Yaccarino's contributions to the company and expressed confidence in her ability to lead Twitter. "Linda is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of success," he said. "Her expertise in advertising and media, coupled with her strategic vision and passion for innovation, make her the ideal person to lead Twitter into its next chapter."
Yaccarino's appointment at Twitter is expected to take effect later this year.
